Position Description
Develops and facilitates the operational procedures for the Willed Body Program (WBP) donor intake, preparation (anatomical embalming), storage, cremation, and disposition. This employee will ensure the integrity of the Institute of Anatomical Sciences and the Willed Body Program are safeguarded through operational procedures that adhere to the State Anatomical Board of Texas and TTUHSC regulations governing the operations of a Willed Body Program, as well as provide support and guidance to the TTUHSC’s teaching and research missions. This employee will provide adequate oversight of the preparation and storage facilities while monitoring cadaver material and maintaining all associated files. The Willed Body Program Manager will support the operations and activities of the Willed Body Program. This position reports directly to the Willed Body Program Director.

Major/Essential Functions
Facilitates/provides Willed Body Program donor transportation and intake.

Conducts skilled technical work through anatomical preparation of cadavers and anatomical material used in anatomical courses.

Oversees cadaver inventory records.

Facilitates assignment of requested cadavers and anatomical specimens for teaching and research purposes.

Assures that Embalming/Preparation and cadaver supplies are requisitioned and ready for use.

Performs/oversees Cremation Process for disposition of cadaveric materials.

Keeps accurate records of cadavers and their final disposition.

Prepares reports for the Anatomical Board of the State of Texas and forwards State Anatomical Board forms to appropriate institutions.

Ensures the Willed Body program meets all the requirements of the State Anatomical Board and is always prepared for an unannounced inspection.


Maintains a safe microbial environment within the anatomy laboratory and embalming and storage areas. 

Maintains strict confidentiality. Ensures compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and policies procedures.

Monitors environmental conditions to be consistent with OSHA regulations.

Exhibits knowledge of personal and environmental microbial control procedures (sterilization and disinfection), including the use of mechanical, physical and chemical methods.

Occasional Duties
Oversight of any individuals conducting activities in the Willed Body Program and Human Gross Anatomy Laboratory, such as faculty, staff, TA’s, maintenance, housekeeping, third party organizations, and TTUHSC students by providing orientation on operational procedures and code of conduct. 

Monitoring individuals as they conduct their activities in the Willed Body Program and Human Gross Anatomy Lab and addressing any Operational Procedures or Code of Conduct Violations to the degree, the violation warrants.

Required Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited school of mortuary sciences and five (5) years of anatomical embalming experience. A current Texas Funeral Director and Embalmer’s License, a current Crematory Operator License and a current Texas Driver’s License. Knowledge of current rules and laws governing the death care industry in the State of Texas as put forth by the Texas Funeral Service Commission. Knowledge of State Anatomical Board of Texas Rules, Principles and Practices.
