Position Description
Manages a unit within a department. Plans, organizes and develops goals and procedures for the unit. Represents the unit to administrators, outside agencies and others on relevant matters. Supervises subordinate staff.

Major/Essential Functions
  • Developing and monitoring tracking and trending processes to enhance collections.
  • Oversee, review and approves daily work performed by subordinates.
  • Reviews status of work in all areas of supervision and makes any necessary adjustments in work loads.
  • Oversee, develops, and monitors processes to increase work efficiency & output of coding staff.
  • Verifies and approves time sheets for subordinates.
  • Works with lead coding specialist to resolve problems, establish and clarify procedures for coding staff.
  • Responsible for management of the daily operations of coding personnel.
  • Training new coding/billing employees.
  • Stays current on federal and state regulations regarding professional services.
  • Attends meetings for all coding supervisors.
  • Compiles reports regarding departmental coding activities including physician documentation errors and coding errors; provides faculty, staff, and department periodic reports of supporting data.
  • Work with management team as team member; communicate coding updated and issues.
  • Oversee and assist in identifying opportunities to refine clinical operations to improve cash collections within scope of duties.
  • Responsible for identifying, planning and executing training staff to improve collections on all available coding programs.
  • Identify, plan and execute methods to reduce the denial rate & reducing the service to posting time.
  • Responsible for various reports to ensure that the department maximized collections.
  • Evaluate and solve systems problems.
  • Responsible for the distribution and completion of all LBOCS emails.
  • Assist the management team in streamlining the collection process.
  • Develop and monitor special projects as needed based on admin teams tracking/findings.
  • Responsible for researching/resolving special issues.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Certified Coder: Preference from accredited licensure
  • Knowledge of database software, excel, and word processing
  • IDX experience is a plus
  • Knowledge of the CPT, ICD-CM, and HCPCS nomenclature, coding rules, and guidelines; understanding of medical terminology
  • Knowledge of inpatient and outpatient medical records processing 
  • Knowledge of insurance/Medicaid rules and billing

Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree plus three years supervisory experience; OR a combination of education and/or supervisory experience to equal seven years.
