Major/Essential Functions
The 86th Texas Legislature priorities focused heavily on behavioral/mental health and school safety.  The Campus Alliance for Telehealth Resources (CATR) Project is designated to roll out this program.  The CATR program is led by an executive team including the Director of the Texas Tech Mental Health Institute, the Chair of the Psychiatry Department, and the Executive Vice President and Director for the F. Marie Hall Institute for Rural and Community Health.  This position to be part of this new program.

The Unit Manager provides technical expertise in the design, implementation, and maintenance of relational database management systems (RDBMSs) that support institutional business applications. Ensures logical data models are mapped effectively and efficiently into physical data models that take advantage of the characteristics of the specific database management system used. Responsible for technically supporting multiple databases that run university-wide business applications which are accessed by multiple departments.
  • Monitors relational databases to optimize database performance, resource use, and physical implementations of databases; addresses a variety of database integration issues including migration between disparate databases, integration, maintenance/conversion, capacity planning issues, and new applications.
  • Monitors and maintains database security and database software, in cooperation with data security administrators.
  • Provides advice to applications programmers in the effective use of database languages; advises on troubleshooting, exception processing needs, and other data management issues.
  • Maintains availability and integrity of databases through multiple access schemes; facilitates sharing of common data by overseeing proper key and index management and data dictionary maintenance.
  • May evaluate and recommend testing and evaluation of new procedures, software, and hardware.
  • Monitors and manages database backups, logs, and journals; installs, maintains, and upgrades database software; restores and/or recovers data as required.
  • Creates, procures and maintains various database related documents such as manuals and programmers handbooks.
  • Maintains currency of knowledge with respect to relevant state-of-the-art technology, equipment, and/or systems.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
  • Creating, maintaining, and monitoring relational databases. Creating and maintaining documents such as manuals and programmer handbooks; Installing and upgrading database software; and testing and evaluating systems to optimize database performance.

Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree; at least 2 years of experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Experience with database applications.
  • Ability to interpret data models and to develop database structures.
  • Ability to use standard diagramming techniques to design and develop computer data models.
  • Ability to program, configure, manage, and maintain the operation of complex relational databases.
  • Ability to develop and manipulate large, complex data sets.
  • Knowledge of data integrity methods and techniques.
  • Technical writing skills.
  • Ability to install, maintain, modify, and upgrade database software.
  • Records maintenance skills.
