Major/Essential Functions
The Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center Libraries invites applications for the position of Assistant Director, Reference Librarian at the Harrington Library of the Health Sciences in Amarillo, TX.  We seek an enthusiastic, forward-thinking individual to join our energetic library team.  Our new colleague will serve as the library liaison to the School of Pharmacy and the School of Health Professions by providing reference, research, and curriculum support to the faculty, students, and staff.  This individual, who reports to the Associate Director of the Harrington Library of the Health Sciences, will contribute expertise, vision, and new ideas to our library’s bibliographic instruction, collection development, and outreach activities.  This position includes an opportunity for non-tenure Faculty Associate appointment in the TTUHSC School of Medicine.  Librarians are expected to make positive contributions toward university service and service to the broader library profession.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Provides health sciences reference and research support and works collaboratively with faculty to plan and deliver course-integrated instruction
  • Serves as a liaison librarian to the School of Pharmacy and the School of Health Professions
  • Delivers instruction and research assistance
  • Identifies faculty and student needs and solicits input on library resources in the specific departmental disciplines
  • Supervises support staff in Circulation
  • Provides assistance with technology tools
  • Teaches information access and assessment
  • Collaborates with faculty to provide curriculum-integrated instructional support
  • Assists with scholarly research
  • Assists with community outreach activities
  • Participates in the development, implementation, and evaluation of library services, policies, and procedures
  • Participates in professional activities and professional development
  • Manages or assists with special projects

Preferred Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
  • A Master’s of Library Science from an American Library Association accredited institution.  Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a medical library or an academic health sciences library
  • Supervisory experience
  • Demonstrated experience in providing library instruction in a college or university setting to students and faculty having a wide range of skills and goals
  • Demonstrated database searching skills
  • Familiarity with emerging technologies and social media
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Undergraduate subject credentials in the biological or health sciences
  • Previous experience with teaching evidence-based medicine principles and practice
  • Knowledge of or participation in systematic reviews
  • Experience in embedded librarianship
