Position Description
Safely performs journeyman level tasks in the fabrication, construction, maintenance, alteration and repair of fixtures, equipment, structures, buildings, and built-in components for Texas Tech facilities. Works under general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Major/Essential Functions
Install, maintain, and repair: sinks, fume hoods, eye wash stations, disposal units, and sewer systems. Replace and repair valves. Cut, thread, and joint pipe fittings for installations and repairs. Unstop sewer systems and maintain clear waste lines. Maintain record of material and labor expended in each job. Use plumbing related tools and machines. Check and service D.I. water system for proper de-ionization and check for leaks. Check neutralizing trap. Maintain, repair, and replace existing steam systems and install new systems. Perform related duties as required.

Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the Commercial Maintenance trade. The ability to read, interpret, and work from rough sketches, blueprints, and drawings. The ability to locate and identify troubles in plumbing lines (or equipment), general electrical, general carpentry and mechanical areas with the ability to plan and implement repairs. Exhibit skills in the use and purpose of hand and power tools used in the maintenance and repairs of the buildings and building systems. Knowledge of practices and/or theory associated with the maintenance and repair of buildings and building systems.

Required Qualifications
Proficiency in written and mathematical skills as may be reflected in the completion of high school or equivalent. Three years experience in designated trade or licensed journeyman.
