Position Description
Manages and directs the day to day operations of a research center/institute or medium sized department. Plans, coordinates and supervises the operation and activities of the center/institute/department. Develops and implements policies and procedures, administers the budget, organizes tasks and sets priorities.

Major/Essential Functions
  • Oversees the planning, operation, maintenance, and scheduling of videoconferencing networks and systems used for distance education, telemedicine, continuing education, and business operations at all TTUHSC campus locations.
  • Develops and implements departmental policies, practices, and procedures to insure effective customer support.
  • Develops, implements, and manages employee professional development programs and practices.
  • Evaluates employee performance and oversees the departmental performance management process.
  • Performs feasibility studies; and economic, life cycle cost, and trend analysis with respect to telecommunications and videoconferencing technologies.
  • Works with executive management in strategic planning related to maintenance and continuous improvement of videoconferencing networks.
  • Oversees research and development pertaining to the creation of new or improved applications for videoconferencing networks, systems, and features for distance education, telemedicine, and other institutional business.
  • Prepares and delivers written correspondence, briefings, technical demonstrations, and other communications.
  • Collaborates with all relevant stakeholders to develop departmental goals and objectives that support institutional needs.
  • Monitors and controls departmental progress in achieving established functional area goals, objectives, and requirements.

Preferred Qualifications
Must have management and people skills appropriate for customer interaction and staff management. Ability to express complex technical concepts effectively, both verbally and in writing. Strong negotiation, facilitation and influencing skills. Must have excellent technical writing skills and be proficient in presenting major project proposals to senior management.
Knowledge of audio systems, DSP configuration and audio commissioning preferred.

Previous project management and or project engineering experience preferred.

Pay Statement
Compensation is commensurate upon the qualifications of the individual selected and budgetary guidelines of the hiring department, as well as, the institutional pay plan. For additional information, please reference the institutional pay plan on the Human Resources webpage.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree required, master's preferred; Six years progressively responsible management experience. Additional education beyond Bachelor's may substitute for experience on a year for year basis.
