Position Description
Manages a section in a department that has institutional oversight. Plans, organizes and develops goals and procedures for the section. Represents the section to administrators, outside agencies and others on relevant matters. Supervises subordinate staff.

Major/Essential Functions
 
  • Employee will be responsible for day to day billing/coding operations within the department as well as supervising the billing/coding staff.
  • Will be responsible for charge capture and ensuring accurate and timely coding and billing of Practice services.
  • Will perform medical record audits and be responsible for maintaining current knowledge of CPT and ICD-9/10 codes.
  • Responsible for hiring and disciplining of personnel in the Coding and Billing area.  Training new Coding/Billing employees.
  • Will educate/train staff on updates and develop recommendations for billing/coding area.
  • Will create and monitor performance dashboards of billing/coding staff.
  • Compilation of various reports.

Certified Coder.  Coding experience, preferable surgery.  Management experience.  Data analysis.  Computer skills.  Proficient with Excel.

Compensation is commensurate upon the qualifications of the individual selected and budgetary guidelines of the hiring department, as well as, the institutional pay plan. For additional information, please reference the institutional pay plan on the Human Resources webpage.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree required plus four years supervisory experience; OR a combination of education and/or supervisory experience to equal eight years.

Certification: Current certification through the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) in the following areas: * Certified Coding Specialist-Physician based (CCS-P) * Certified Coding Specialists (CCS) * Certified in Healthcare Privacy (CHP) * Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) * Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) * Certified Coding Associate
 


OR


Current certification through the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) in of the following areas: * Certified Professional Coder (CPC) * Certified Professional Coder-Hospital (CPH-H)
