Major/Essential Functions
Perform specialized work in hypertension and cardiac ischemia reperfusion injury to fulfill the commitments in the NIH research projects. Study vascular relaxation and contractions using wire and pressure myograph. Use transgenic mouse models and state of art radio-telemetry and myographs to study role of oxidative stress in endothelial dysfunction, vascular wall remodeling and hypertension. Use echocardiography to analyze vascular flow dynamics. Prior research experience in handling animals and microsurgery in mice or rat is required. Experience in echocardiography, telemetry and isolated mouse heart preparation is desirable. Post-doctoral Research Associate will perform research in vascular biology, hypertension and cardiac ischemia reperfusion injury. The main duties will be small animal surgery, such as myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury, isolation of coronary artery and mesenteric arteries in mouse models and perform experiments in vascular reactivity (wire and pressure myography) and myocyte isolation from adult heart.  The job will also involve real time PCR analysis, cloning, reporter assays, confocal microscopy and cellular transfection studies. The ideal candidate will have an outstanding publication record and demonstrated skills in biochemistry and molecular biology. He/she is expected to work without supervision, analyze data, maintain accurate experimental record and write manuscripts for publication. Ability to independently work in a research project is essential. Ability to organize work effectively, conceptualize and prioritize objectives based on project knowledge is a plus.  Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with other research personnel in the lab and working in a team environment is expected. Develop relevant new ideas and procedures applicable to the area of scientific research as it applies to hypertension and vascular biology; carry out professional and other responsibilities within the overall research community commensurate with rank (e.g. Institutional committee service and other academic assignments).
