Position Description
Employees in this classification are responsible for providing professional nursing care in an assigned specialty or sub-specialty clinic. They perform a variety of general and specialized nursing duties as part of a total health care team to provide the patient with complete evaluations. Employees in this position generally assist the head nurse in the supervision of other clinic personnel and may substitute for this person in the event of his/her absence. May supervise and instruct subordinate nursing personnel. Receives supervision from head nurse or physician, functions independently within guidelines. May supervise ancillary nursing personnel in the performance of certain tasks, and assists in training personnel. Work is performed under usual clinic conditions and requires a high degree of contact with patients, families, and other clinic personnel and outside professionals.

Major/Essential Functions
Develop and maintain ongoing professional relationships with accreditation/certification agencies.
Develop and maintain ongoing professional relationships with customers (individuals,organizations, and agencies).
Liaison between the Simulation Center and customers conducting certification courses (for example Advanced Life Support).
Maintain knowledge and skills of current standards regarding certification courses (specifically those related to American Heart Association).
Disseminate information regarding changes/modifications in guidelines to appropriate individuals.
Market certification courses to potential TTUHSC internal (faculty, staff, residents, and students) and external (the public and other agencies within region) customers.
Comply and maintain records as required by specific accreditation/certification agencies. * Compiles and submit reports and documents as required by certification agencies/organizations.
Bill individuals, departments, and agencies related to certification courses.
Purchase and distribute of course completion cards.
Compile and submit yearly utilization and cost analysis to Director related to certification courses.
Adhere to the guidelines set by certification organizations.
Educate others related to guidelines set by certification organizations.
Clean and maintain supplies, equipment, mannequins, and simulators used during certification courses.
Assist in maintaining inventory of supplies, equipment, manikins, and simulators used during certification courses.
Stock and maintain crash carts throughout the center.
Assist with running simulation-based activities as assigned by the coordinator and/or director.
Maintain and stock computerized medication devices utilizing formulary.
Maintain and clean medication rooms.
Assist in teaching of electronic health records.
Employees in this classification are the liaison between the Simulation Center and customers conducting certification within the center. These employees are responsible for conducting and monitoring courses related to the American Heart Association. Staff Nurses assist in maintaining inventory of supplies, equipment, manikins, and simulators and setting-up and tear-down of simulation-based activities.

Preferred Qualifications
Current certification as Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, and Pediatric Life Support Instructor or ability to acquire certification in 30 days.
Teaching experience.

Required Qualifications
Education:  Completion of a Board of Nursing accredited program of professional nursing or scheduled to complete a program of professional nursing within 120 days of applying for a position.
License/Certification:  Current Registered Nursing license in the state of Texas or the attainment of a temporary permit from the Board of Nursing to practice professional nursing pending full licensure in the state of Texas. New graduates must pass the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX- RN) on the first attempt.
