Position Description
Employees in this classification are responsible for providing professional nursing care, specifically telephone triage services, in a secure office setting "after hours" (evenings, nights, and weekends). They function within their legal scope of practice and in accordance with the policies and procedures of the organization and practice setting using recognized, evidenced based, protocol driven telephone triage software. Telephone triage RN's will generate appropriate documentation, complete follow up protocols, and communicate with other health care team members as needed to ensure optimal care delivery and optimize customer satisfaction.

Major/Essential Functions

*  Interview patients over the phone to collect data to implement triage process.
*  Assess information to set a priority of urgency.
*  Select appropriate guidelines; refer to other resources as appropriate
*  Apply intervention and /or activate disposition
*  Educate patient and/or family
*  Facilitate appropriate follow-up care
*  Participate in emergency preparedness drills in department
*  Participate in identifying patient needs; refers to resources.
*  Facilitate continuity of care.
*  Attend nursing staff meetings.
*  Complete Annual Nursing Core Competency Training and Skills Fair.
*  Document each triage encounter in the appropriate areas of the computer program for continuity of care.
*  Initiate follow up phone calls with patients?
   Audit charts for quality and control as requested.

Pay Statement
Compensation is commensurate upon the qualifications of the individual selected and budgetary guidelines of the hiring department, as well as, the institutional pay plan. For additional information, please reference the institutional pay plan on the Human Resources webpage.

Required Qualifications
Completion of a recognized program of professional nursing. Three years of RN experience, with some RN experience in one of the following pediatric settings: hospital, clinic, or community based. Current RN license in the State of Texas or have the ability to transfer your license to Texas.
