Position Description
Employees in this classification are responsible for the planning, organization, direction, and evaluation of patient care services (primarily nursing services) within an assigned specialty or sub-specialty area in one of the ambulatory clinics. Persons in this position provide supervision and direction to subordinate nursing personnel, coordinating the nursing service with the medical services in order to provide an efficient and professional environment for optimum production in health care for the patient. Employees are also responsible for providing professional nursing care within the assigned area of work. Supervisory duties include but are not limited to interviewing applicants for vacant nursing positions and making the final selection, maintaining personnel records regarding leave time, evaluations, and personnel problems, conducting employee evaluations, approving and coordinating leave time for nursing personnel, and assisting personnel in setting work-related goals. Work is performed under usual clinic conditions.

Major/Essential Functions
This position is an Institutional level nursing position that will travel to all assigned campuses to manage the needs for the occupational health component of our Laboratory Animal Research Centers including faculty, staff, and students. Employees in this classification will be responsible for developing and implementing policies required for accreditation and ensuring that Texas Tech University Health Science Center is meeting those requirements on an ongoing basis. Provide initial care, recommendations, and referral to employees and students who will be working in the LARC or who will be in direct contact with animals. Provide and coordinate services which increase employee knowledge and skills to promote and protect health (immunizations, personal protective equipment, and education) Provide and oversee programs to monitor health status with regard to work exposures specific to the LARC's species that are being researched. Ensuring employee health records and injury and illness records are generated, communicated, and maintained in a timely manner and in accordance with applicable regulations.

Preferred Qualifications
Strong proficiency in PC- based skills (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) are essential.
The Occupational Head Nurse must possess strong oral, written, presentation and interpersonal communication skills including the ability to explain medical policies and procedures to personnel at all organizational levels.
An ability to effectively prioritize and anticipate needs while managing complexity and ambiguity is essential.
Prior experience in developing and implementing best healthcare practices across an organization while maintaining good interpersonal skills, confidentiality, and diplomacy is essential.
Candidates should possess influencing skills to effect appropriate health and safety activities

Pay Statement
Compensation is commensurate upon the qualifications of the individual selected and budgetary guidelines of the hiring department, as well as, the institutional pay plan. For additional information, please reference the institutional pay plan on the Human Resources webpage.

Required Qualifications
+Education:+ Graduated from an approved accredited nursing program. +License/Certification:+ Current RN license in the State of Texas or ability to obtain a Texas license. +Experience:+ At least four years in nursing, with at least two of those years in a supervisory capacity.
