Position Description
Provides primary care as part of a health care team in an ambulatory setting in a particular discipline. Provides patient education and counseling as well as physical assessment. May participate in teaching programs for students and other student residents. Work is performed under usual clinic conditions and requires a high degree of contact with patients, families, and other clinic personnel and outside professionals. Some positions in the classification require travel to outreach clinics and home visits, and participation in educational efforts and special programs that occur outside of normal working hours.

Major/Essential Functions
*   Provides obstetrical care to low and high-risk patients.
*   Completes physical examinations, routine prenatal examinations and teaching, evaluation of disease processes, and referral to specialists as needed.
*   Prescribes and/or issues medications and supplements as appropriate by protocol and certification
*   Provides routine well woman and low risk gynecological care, evaluation of disease processes, and referral to specialists as needed.
*   Prescribes and/or issues medications and supplements as appropriate by protocol and certification 
*   Records and reviews patient record via electronic system.
*   Completes charge sheet entries accurately and timely to facilitate charge reimbursement.
*   Abides by billing and coding directives as provided by management.
*   Provides education and counsel appropriate to the medical needs of the patient. 
*   Maintains current licensure and continuing medical education credits as required by Texas State Law.
*   Performs other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications
*   Master of Science degree in Nursing or Master of Science degree in Physician Assistant Studies
*   National Nurse Practitioner Certification in Women’s Health, Adult or Family and / or Certified Midwifery
       or Physician Assistant certification or ability to obtain prior to employment
*   Unrestricted, active licensure in the State of Texas, or ability to obtain prior to employment
*   Current DEA or ability to obtain
*   1+ year of experience as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in an OB/GYN or Women’s
       Health clinic setting
*   Intermediate level of technical proficiency in the use of computer programs for medical records or
       internet search for clinical practice
*   Current NPI and / or PTAN number or ability to obtain
*   Ability to communicate with patients, primary care team members and management staff
*   Ability to make care decisions based on the best medical practices without direct supervision or
       guidance by a physician
*   Ability to formulate a differential diagnosis
*   Proficient in assessment and development of treatment plans

Required Qualifications
Graduated from an approved accredited nursing program; current RN license in the State of Texas or have the ability to transfer your license to Texas. Certification as a Nurse Practitioner in the appropriate nursing specialty from an approved certification program as recognized by the Texas State Board of Nurse Examiners. Recognition by the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners as an Advance Practitioner.
