Position Description
Provides primary care as part of a health care team in an ambulatory setting in a particular discipline. Provides patient education and counseling as well as physical assessment. May participate in teaching programs for students and other student residents. Work is performed under usual clinic conditions and requires a high degree of contact with patients, families, and other clinic personnel and outside professionals. Some positions in the classification require travel to outreach clinics and home visits, and participation in educational efforts and special programs that occur outside of normal working hours.

Major/Essential Functions
  • This position will serve as the Clinical Services Director as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) for the TTUHSC SON Combest Wellness Center providing comprehensive, evidence-based practice and collaborating as part of an interdisciplinary team.  This is a leadership position with oversight clinical operations.  
  • Serves a member of the leadership team.
  • Will adhere to completing Value Based Culture components for direct reports and other HR requirements.
  • Provides primary care as a part of a healthcare team in an ambulatory setting.
  • Provides patient education and counseling.
  • Conducts patient health and physical assessments.
  • May participate in teaching programs and serve as a preceptor for teaching programs for students as identified by the department and supervisor.
  • May require occasional travel. 
  • Required to participate in educational efforts and special programs that may occur outside of normal working hours.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse patient population.
  • Required to complete all training required by the institution and department by deadlines identified.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with the healthcare team and other entities.
  • Required to complete patient charts and enter data into the Electronic Health Records (EHR) meeting deadlines identified by the department.
  • Required to attend departmental meetings other meetings as identified or assigned.
  • Required to develop clinical policies.
  • Will develop strategies to meet to comply with regulatory and safety initiatives.
  • Will participate in generating required data for grant reporting.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP)
  • Experience working in a Federally Qualified Healthcare Center (FQHC), Public Health Care model, or other related area.
  • Experience in providing primary care in a medical setting, preferably in an ambulatory setting.
  • Five years of supervisory experience.
  • Five years of experience as an APRN, Certified Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) or other Nurse Practitioner.
  • Basic Life Support certification.
  • Candidates for the position should have an outstanding reputation in the delivery of primary care services, with significant experience in primary care.
  • Experience using electronic health records (EHR) software \\systems with experience in documentation in medical records.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and written with patients, staff, and other entities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse population to meet patient needs.
  • Ability to demonstrate working knowledge of current healthcare practices.
  • Demonstrate good time management skills.
  • Demonstrate critical thinking skills.

Compensation is commensurate with the qualifications of the individual selected and budgetary guidelines of the hiring department, as well as, the institutional pay plan. For additional information, please reference the institutional pay plan on the Human Resources webpage.

Required Qualifications
Education: Graduated from an approved accredited nursing program. License/Certification: Current RN license in the State of Texas or have the ability to transfer your license to Texas. Certification as a Nurse Practitioner in the appropriate nursing specialty from an approved certification program as recognized by the Texas State Board of Nurse Examiners. Recognition by the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners as an Advance Practitioner.

Submit verification of advanced nurse practitioner certification in FNP (or other NP CERT, such as  ACNP), BLS, and verification of nursing license to practice in Texas.
