Position Description
This a responsible professional Position with limited administrative and supervisory duties at the unit level. Specific duties include testing, psychological evaluation and diagnostic services as well as counseling assigned patient caseload. This position functions under the supervision of a higher level licensed psychologist, but the individual has full professional responsibility for higher actions and advice.

Major/Essential Functions
Treatment team: Dependability-on time for tx team, arranges coverage, notifies team members of absences. Scheduling-Patient's ITP's are reviewed based on timeframes in current policies and for release planning. Contribution-reports relevant information regarding O/P's symptoms, diagnoses and current level of functioning to treatment team. Coordination-assists in the interviewing of O/P's and other staff members using professional and assertive verbal/non-verbal communication. Preparedness-arrives with necessary materials to complete ITP's and special staffing notes.

Monitoring (Row Round) and Assessment (Psychosocial Evaluation): Staff member monitors each patient prior to tx team review. Required documentation is noted in the medical record. Meets standard for quality, quantity, time frames as set by supervisor and team. Staff member conducts a patient interview on or before the 10th work day after the day of admission. The psychosocial evaluation and all corresponding documentation are completed per policy/supervisory directive. Adheres to clinical and security procedures when completing evaluations. 

Case Management: Responds to I-60's in accordance to existing policies. Responds to family calls per policy.  Documents family calls in the medical record with required forms. Completes release planning tasks including necessary communication and paperwork in a timely manner and according to policy. Manages treatment team referrals and referrals to specialized programs in timely and appropriate manner. 

Demonstrates knowledge of therapeutic approach and creates and maintains positive therapeutic environment. Maintains professional, therapeutic boundaries. Adheres to established guidelines for individual and group demographics. Adheres to established guidelines for individual, psych-educational and psychotherapeutic groups. 

Involuntary admissions: Serves as and demonstrates knowledge of the patient advocate's role in representing the patient's right to refuse treatment in accordance with procedural hearings. Represents the declared wishes of the patients, who may be living with severe mental illness and/or serious emotional disturbances, to the reviewing physicians who determine patient's need for inpatient psychiatric care. Demonstrates knowledge of the process and procedure for a Civil Commitment Hearing. The clinician understands and demonstrates their role in civil commitment hearings in a competent/professional manner. 

Clinical Documentation and Correspondence: Documents using legible handwriting and/or appropriate forms in the EMR, professional language, supports clinical assessment with objective information/observation, and avoids jargon. 

Non-Emergent Compelled Medication: Serves as/demonstrates knowledge of the non-treating mental health professional's role and responsibility in conjunction with hearings for non-emergency compelled medication.

Attends/participates/completes training required to meet requirements set forth by TTUHSC, TDCJ and TSBEP, TSBEPC, or TSBSWE

Effective Use of Technology: Document, find information and communicate effectively using the Electronic Medical Record, Microsoft Office Programs, TDCJ Host on Demand and programs/operations utilized by Managed Care and TTUHSC.This valuable team member shall perform work in a manner that reflects the Values of TTUHSC:

Preferred Qualifications
The Applicant may have a Master's or Doctoral degree and licensure as an LPC, or LMFT, LMSW, LCSW, or a Psychologist. Other closely related degrees may be considered if there is strong evidence that the Applicant demonstrates: the clinical ability to make accurate diagnostic and risk-related treatment decisions, will operate within their area of experitise, and will correctly utilize supervision from the Mental Health Clinical Supervisors.
The Applicant must have the ability to function effectively and professionally as a part of a multidisciplinary treatment team. The Applicant must have the knowledge of the principles, ethics, terminology, and procedures of mental health assessment, as well as individual and group treatment. The applicant must be able to skillfully analyze data and integrate information into the appropriate reports or documentation. The Applicant must be able to effectively communicate in writing and verbally. The Applicant must be capable of working on several tasks simultaneously and does so according to designated time frames and level of importance. The Applicant must have a strong work ethic and follow ethical guidelines

Employee is able to interact with people of all cultures, social economic backgrounds and educational levels. Understands and recognizes psycological, emotional and physical boundaries and practices in accordance with that knowledge and understanding. Is able to work in accordance with the standards of TTUHSC, CMHC, TDCJ, APA, TSBEPC, and/or TSBSWE. Pay Statement
Compensation is commensurate upon the qualifications of the individual selected and budgetary guidelines of the hiring department, as well as, the institutional pay plan. For additional information, please reference the institutional pay plan on the Human Resources webpage.

Additional Tasks: Participates in committees or teams in order to enhance or create programs at the John T. Montford Unit. Participation in unit programs for staff, security, safety and support. Supervision of BSW students for appropriate licensure. Presentation of leadership in statewide or national professional organizations or conferences. Presentations for classes at local universities. Serves as certified Spanish speaking interpreter if TDCJ certification is secured. And, additional duties as assigned by supervisor.
