Employees in this classification provide support in an assigned research laboratory conducting specified phases of research projects. Performs work independently and is responsible for developing new procedures and techniques to be utilized in the laboratory and in experiments, and new applications for standard procedures and techniques. Work is performed under usual laboratory conditions. Some hazards may be present due to use of radioactive, carcinogenic or other potientially harmful substances. Responsibilities also include ensuring overall cleanliness of the laboratory and laboratory equipment, and ordering and maintaining an adequate stock of necessary supplies. May instruct or direct work of subordinate laboratory personnel.

Candidate will be responsible for maintaining animal colonies by following university guidelines. Familiar with the procedure of restraining animals, drug administration via intramuscular, intraperitoneal, as well as gavage; candidate also will collect rodent blood sample for analysis. Candidate should be familiar with basic aseptic cell culture techniques, record keeping and data entry in laboratory notebook and on computer based databases. Candidate will be responsible for ordering supplies, preparing solutions, washing and sterilizing instruments and glassware’s etc. Wet lab experiments include nucleic acid purification and quality control via nanodrop and Agilent Bioanalyzer, real time PCR, apoptosis, ELISA, seahorse Bioanalyzer, agarose and protein gels. Web based interphase analysis of gene expression data.

Occasional weekend work in rodent colony, training new students.

Bachelor's degree in one of the sciences, or equivalent combination (4 years) of job-related experience and college education. Experience may be substituted for college education on a year for year basis. (Volunteer work is excluded from work experience).
