Major/Essential Functions

This position will work closely with the Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences and will assist in creating the strategic marketing and communication plan for the department. Will manage and direct the day-to-day operations of the department’s marketing functions including print and electronic media, video, web design, social media and coordination of departmental conferences.

This employee will provide administrative support to the department chairman and complete varied and complex office duties which require a knowledge of department and institutional policies. Will coordinate meetings, tasks and functions for the department as well as being a part of the department's staff leadership team. Shall be responsible for attending department meetings, taking minutes, compiling and distributing minutes to members. Work is performed in an office environment with a high degree of telephone and personal interaction with HSC faculty, staff, patients and outside professionals.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degrees in marketing, communications, or public relations preferred. 
  • Administrative experience in a medical or scientific setting preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, together with the ability to work collaboratively and courteously with colleagues throughout Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, other external stakeholders and the public.
  • Professional and positive approach, self-motivated team-player, dynamic, and creative.
  • Excellent communicator with the ability to influence and persuade others.
  • Demonstrates strong oral and written communication skills including the ability to clearly present recommendations and ideas to summarize complex issues.
  • Demonstrated skills, knowledge, and experience in the design and execution of marketing, communication, advertising, and public relations activities.
  • Experience hiring, training, developing, supervising, and appraising staff.
  • Computer literacy in word processing, spreadsheets, database management, social media, and web design.
  • Commitment to work with shared leadership and in cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to organize and complete multiple tasks simultaneously with close attention to detail and prioritization to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work evenings as needed.
