Position Description
Employees in this classification are responsible for performing a wide variety of patient care activities in an assigned specialty or sub-specialty outpatient clinic. Work is performed under the direction of a licensed staff nurse and/or physician as part of a total health care team in providing complete evaluations to patients. Work is performed under usual clinic conditions, necessitating a high degree of contact with patient, families and clinic personnel.

Major/Essential Functions
Assumes the role of a License Vocational Nurse. Maintains confidentiality of patient records and medical charts. Collects necessary records for patient charts (lab & x-ray reports, charge sheets, etc.). Prepares patient charts and previews clinic schedule of day's appointments. Ensures adequate levels of supplies and equipment are maintained for diagnostic and treatment procedures. Also ensures that exam/treatment rooms are clean and appropriately stocked with supplies at all
times. Records patient’s complaint, vital signs, height/weight and measurements in chart. Assist physician with exams and various specialized procedures. Maintains current nursing training and certificates/license/continuing education.

Preferred Qualifications
Must have adequate grammar skills and communicate effectively. Must be able to use common sense. Must be able to
determine emergent from non-emergent. Must have adequate computer skills and ability to use basic equipment such as
thermometer, blood pressure cuff, scales, stethoscope, copier, fax machine.
Bilingual strongly preferred.

Required Qualifications
+Education:+ Completion of a Board of Nursing accredited program of vocational nursing or scheduled to complete a program of vocational nursing within 120 days of applying for a position. +License/Certification:+ Current Vocational Nursing license in the state of Texas or the attainment of a temporary permit from the Board of Nursing to practice vocational nursing pending full licensure in the state of Texas. New graduates must pass the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX- PN) on the first attempt. +Experience:+ No experience required.
