Position Description
Performs specialized work in the planning, conducting and/or supervising of original research at TTUHSC. Responsible for participating in, planning, scheduling and/or supervising research projects and the interpretation of the results for publication. Work is performed under general supervision with evaluation based on accomplishment of assigned objectives and overall effectiveness of project. May supervise research and student assistants.

Major/Essential Functions
Responsible for participating in a research project associated with extramural funding and in the interpretation of the results for publication. The employee will carry out demanding biomedical research in the area of cancer immunology with emphasis on prostate cancer. The research is focused on the molecular/cellular and preclinical studies characterizing tumor-stromal interactions underlying tumor initiation and progression including metastatic dissemination. Work is performed under the supervision of PI with evaluation based on accomplishment of assigned objectives and overall effectiveness of project. May supervise research and student assistants. This is a one year appointment to be renewed annually based on satisfactory performance and mutual agreement between mentor and the Research Associate. Ability to work semi-independently to carry out demanding biomedical research in the area of cancer-immunology.  Carries out research in the area of cancer biology with immune cells and cancer cells. Responsible for conducting scientific research project and for publishing findings and results of the research. In conjunction with the PI, develops and determines research procedures to be utilized in a specific project. Designs and performs laboratory experiments as part of the research. Analyzes and interprets data obtained in research and laboratory experiments. Conducts literature searches in the library to assist with research work. Prepares and submits for publication scientific papers and articles concerning research work and results. Performs routine maintenance of laboratory equipment, ensuring that equipment is in good repair, and general laboratory clean up.

Preferred Qualifications
PhD in the biological, biochemistry, immunology, or molecular biology. Ability to organize work effectively, conceptualize and prioritize objectives and exercise independent judgement based on an understanding of organizational policies and activities. Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with other employees and the public. Ability to guide graduate students and summer students in research. Expertise in cell biology, immunology, and experience working with mice. Demonstrated ability to conduct research and having been published in peer-reviewed journals.

Required Qualifications
Master's degree or specialized academic training beyond the Bachelor's level in a particular field of science or engineering equivalent to a Master's degree. One year research experience. Knowledge of modern research practices, the methods, resources, and standards thereof.
