Position Description
Performs specialized Post Doctoral work in the planning, conducting and/or supervision of original research. Responsible for participating in a research project associated with Ph.D studies and the interpretation of the results of publication. Work is performed under supervision of graduate faculty members with evaluation based on accomplishment of assigned objectives and overall effectiveness of project. May supervise research and student assistants.

Major/Essential Functions
Performs specialized Post Doctoral work in the planning, conducting and/or supervision of original research at TTUHSC.
Responsible for participating in a research project associated with Ph.D studies and the interpretation of the results of
publication. Work is performed under supervision of graduate faculty members with evaluation based on accomplishment
of assigned objectives and overall effectiveness of project. May supervise research and student assistants. Independently
plans, design, and conducts experimental protocols involving highly complex biochemical and biological analyses relating
to cancer research; independently conducts experiments using DNA, RNA, and protein isolation and purification, PCR and
quantitative RT-PCR, site-directed mutagenesis, gel electrophoresis, Western immunoblot, immunoprecipitation, single
molecule DNA combing assays, cytogenetic studies, gel shift assay and immunohistochemistry, cell culture techniques,
recombinant DNA techniques including cloning, and plasmid preparation and purification; analyzes and interprets data;
supervises lower level staff and students to include assigning duties and checking work; provides expertise in operating and
maintaining specialized equipment; attends local and national conferences to present research findings; assists in the
preparation of grant applications; prepares manuscripts for publication; ensures compliance with laboratory safety
procedures in the handling, storage, and disposal of biohazardous, radioactive, and/or highly toxic materials; orders
equipment and supplies; regular and prompt attendance; ability to work schedule as defined and additional hours as
required; related duties as required.

Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge and experience with independently conducting experiments using DNA, RNA, and protein isolation and

immunoprecipitation, single molecule DNA combing assays, cytogenetic studies, gel shift assay and

and purification.

Required Qualifications
PhD or equivalent doctorate (e.g., D.Sc., M.D.) in area of project specialization.
