Employees in this classification are responsible for the planning, organization, direction, and evaluation of patient care services (primarily nursing services) within an assigned specialty or sub-specialty area in one of the ambulatory clinics. Persons in this position provide supervision and direction to subordinate nursing personnel, coordinating the nursing service with the medical services in order to provide an efficient and professional environment for optimum production in health care for the patient. Employees are also responsible for providing professional nursing care within the assigned area of work. Supervisory duties include but are not limited to interviewing applicants for vacant nursing positions and making the final selection, maintaining personnel records regarding leave time, evaluations, and personnel problems, conducting employee evaluations, approving and coordinating leave time for nursing personnel, and assisting personnel in setting work-related goals. Work is performed under usual clinic conditions.

Ensures nursing staff competency to function assigned; Ensures nursing staff are properly trained and supervised to perform job functions, including but not limited to EMR training, internal medicine and/or subspecialty specific training, specific department protocols; Monitors nursing processes to determine the physical and mental health status, needs and preferences of patients and their families based upon interpretation of comprehensive health assessment findings; Analyzes assessment data to identify problems, formulate goals/outcomes and develop plans of care for patients and their families using evidence based practice in collaboration with patients, their families and the health care team members; Monitors communication of patient data using patient's hard copy chart and/or EMR to support decision making for delivery of optimal patient care; Conduct internal medicine nurse staff meetings; Personally assists with or performs exams and procedures and documents intervention in EMR and monitors staff to ensure compliance with evidence based practice; Monitors and ensures telephonic communication between clinic staff and patients comply with departmental and organizational policy. Priority is given to patient triage; Inspects examination / treatment rooms to ensure they are properly stocked and compliant with Infection Prevention and Control Policies; Ensures and monitors the preparation and operation of equipment and instruments for examinations, treatments and/or procedures: Proactively communicates with Medical Director and/or faculty and administrator regarding equipment needs and issues; Ensures staff evaluate and report patient outcomes and responses to therapeutic interventions; Ensures staff complete proper care issues / messaging; Ensures staff evaluate and report patient outcomes for waiver programs as needed; Works with faculty physicians and fellows to develop, implement and evaluate teaching plans for patients and their families to address promotion, maintenance and restoration.
Minimum Hire Rate
Strong working knowledge of outpatient clinical processes and procedures; Strong leadership with the ability to bring staff together to complement patient care; Working knowledge of GE Centricity and Cerner (EMR).

Performs investigation of accidents and/or injuries and generates Occurrence Reports for unexpected outcomes; Conducts departmental emergency response drills and ensures participation of staff in organizational emergency preparedness drills; Other duties as assigned by supervisors.

Education: Graduated from an approved accredited nursing program. License/Certification: Current RN license in the State of Texas or ability to obtain a Texas license. Experience: At least four years in nursing, with at least two of those years in a supervisory capacity.
