Position Description
Employees in this classification are responsible for the planning, organization, direction, and evaluation of patient care services (primarily nursing services) within an assigned specialty or sub-specialty area in one of the ambulatory clinics. Persons in this position provide supervision and direction to subordinate nursing personnel, coordinating the nursing service with the medical services in order to provide an efficient and professional environment for optimum production in health care for the patient. Employees are also responsible for providing professional nursing care within the assigned area of work. Supervisory duties include but are not limited to interviewing applicants for vacant nursing positions and making the final selection, maintaining personnel records regarding leave time, evaluations, and personnel problems, conducting employee evaluations, approving and coordinating leave time for nursing personnel, and assisting personnel in setting work-related goals. Work is performed under usual clinic conditions.

Major/Essential Functions
  1. Direct and coordinate clinical activities of ENT nursing staff at HSC and remote locations.
  2. Hire, train, evaluate, and counsel ENT nursing staff and monitor performance.
  3. Develop and maintain a good working relationship with ENT nurses to ensure high staff satisfaction and morale.
  4. Prepare and operate necessary equipment and instruments for examination, treatments and procedures.
  5. Communicate with patients via telephone per clinic protocol.
  6. Participate in the identification of patient needs for referral to resources and facilitate continuity of care.
  7. Assist with or perform exams and procedures; document interventions in EMR.
  8. Refill and/or send medications to pharmacies according to clinic and facility policy.
  9. Administer medications either orally or by injection.
  10. Formulate and implement ongoing JCAHO approved technical training programs for ENT nurses.
  11. Approve expenditures of daily consumable ENT clinical supplies within established budgetary guidelines.
  12. Establish ENT clinical protocol and prepare reports on ENT clinic utilization, patient flow, and quality improvement.
  13. Monitor patient satisfaction and patient complaints.
  14. Work with ENT physicians and ENT administrator to develop clinical, facility and equipment needs.
  15. Perform investigation of accidents/injuries and generates Occurrence Reports for unexpected outcomes.
  16. Conduct departmental emergency response drills and ensure participation of staff in organizational emergency preparedness drills.
  17. Work under the supervision of ENT Administrator to assure effective nursing operations.
  18. Attend all meetings and required training.
  19. Serve as backup nurse when needed.
  20. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT:  Serves as a Mentor and promotes, assesses, and evaluates the educational needs and requirements specific to job disciplines of your staff and self within your departmental assignment.

Required Qualifications
+Education:+ Graduated from an approved accredited nursing program. +License/Certification:+ Current RN license in the State of Texas or ability to obtain a Texas license. +Experience:+ At least four years in nursing, with at least two of those years in a supervisory capacity.
