Position Description
Directs, plans, coordinates and supervises the operation and activities of a specialized unit or small department; develops and implements policies and procedures, administers the budget, organizes tasks and sets priorities. Serves as liaison with university personnel and community at large. Works under general supervision with broad latitude for initiative and independent judgment.

Major/Essential Functions
  • Facilitate, oversee all statistical services provided by the Clinical Research Institute, including but not limited to direct interaction with faculty, staff, and trainees.

  • Supervise, evaluate, and train biostatisticians/analysts within the Clinical Research Institute

  • Develops/maintains policies on statistical procedures for the management and analysis of clinical research data.

  • Assist faculty/staff with development of research protocols.

  • Determine the most appropriate study design based on options for statistical analysis.

  • Determine which statistical tests are most appropriate for proposed study design.

  • Develop study documents.

  • Provide data qualify assurance (QA) review.

  • Perform statistical analyses for assigned studies.

  • Assists with manuscript and presentation development.

  • Develops and presents educational programs in biostatistics to investigators, students, and research staff on all HSC campuses.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications
Doctorate in statistics or in a field which has provided extensive training in statistics, such as Psychology or social sciences.  Experience in biostatistics, preferably applicable to clinical research. Good verbal and written communication skills to be able to communicate with investigators is extremely important.

Working knowledge of SPSS, STATA and/or SAS statistical programs required. Ability to develop, organize and prepare tables and figures with statistical results for investigators, presentations, and manuscript submission.
