Major/Essential Functions

Reporting to the Office of the President, the Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Title IX will guide efforts at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) to conceptualize, define, assess, nurture, and cultivate TTUHSC’s objective in achieving an open, diverse, equitable and inclusive learning and working environment by ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local equal opportunity and non-discrimination laws and regulations including affirmative action, Title IX, Violence Against Women Act, the Clery Act, and other applicable laws and regulations as required.

The Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Title IX will serve as TTUHSC’s Title IX Coordinator and will play a key role in the university’s compliance efforts and commitment to providing a learning and working environment free from gender discrimination and sexual harassment.  Additionally, they will be responsible for providing leadership and guidance to faculty, staff, and students to support underrepresented groups on campus and the creation of an inclusive community.

Primary responsibilities include: (1) day-to-day application and review of university policies and practices as it relates to diversity, equity, inclusion and Title IX; (2) conducting investigations of and response to alleged violations of gender discrimination and sexual misconduct; (3) providing support in diversity issues, including faculty, staff, and student recruitment and retention strategies; (4) developing, implementing, and administering policies and procedures to promote a respectful and diverse campus community; and (5) providing education and training on gender discrimination and diversity, equity, and inclusion matters.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Minimum of a master’s degree in related field is required.

  • Ability to manage investigations of sensitive and complex subject matter.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and interact with all levels of academic and staff personnel and students.

  • Skill in program development, including delineating goals and objectives, determining implementation steps and time frames, designing evaluation measures, and modifying designs and procedures to accommodate current organizational needs.

  • Direct experience related to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the field of higher education.

  • Capacity to oversee and conduct sensitive investigations, review investigation reports, and exercise judgment in making findings regarding whether violations of non-discrimination, sexual violence, or sexual harassment policy or law have been committed.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with only general direction and to accept equivocal circumstances and take appropriate action where answers to a problem are not readily apparent.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required; master's preferred. Seven years progressively responsible management experience required. Education beyond bachelor's level may substitute for required experience on a year-for-year basis.

  • Demonstrated ability to build consensus and collaborate with a diverse community.

  • Knowledgeable of diversity issues, including faculty and staff recruitment and retention strategies.

  • Strong knowledge of Title IX regulations and related federal and state laws and regulations pertaining to gender discrimination, sexual violence, and sexual harassment, including working knowledge of due process protections, the Clery Act, VAWA (Violence Against Women Act), and FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act). 

  • Demonstrated written and oral communication skills at a high management level.

  • Skill in developing and delivering training and education programs, workshops, and other presentations for small and large groups.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

  • Ability to effectively mediate conflict and communicate across constituencies, while demonstrating empathy and understanding in situations concerning sensitive matters.

  • Ability to advise and consult university leadership on matters relating to diversity, equity, inclusion, and Title IX.

  • Commitment to inclusion and diversity including, but not limited to, race, sex, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, socioeconomic status, veteran status, disability.

  • Ability to design and manage effective administrative processes.

  • Ability to research, interpret and apply law and policy.
