Major/Essential Functions
Supervises all aspects of a small to medium-sized academic OB/GYN department including faculty physician oversight, resident and student education, department profitability, and compliance with institutional, state, and federal guidelines. Ensures the highest quality of education is provided to residents and medical students. Provides oversight of research and scholarly activities. Expected to participate in didactic teaching, clinical activities and night care. Will have designated administrative time for meetings and other university-related activities. Ensures faculty and residents within department provide exceptional primary and consultative medical care to a five-state area including the Texas Panhandle. Creates an atmosphere that reflects the core values of TTUHSC: One Team; Kind-Hearted; Integrity, Visionary and Beyond Service.
The Amarillo OB/GYN department averages 2500 clinic visits per month, approx. 2,000 deliveries/year, approx. 500 gynecologic surgeries/year, and has 20 beds in L&D, 8 full-time faculty members, 1 PA, 2 NPs, and 12 residents. The two principal hospitals are within walking distance of the campus.
