Position Description
Performs supervisory and coordinative work in the operation of a specific program or departmental project. Responsibilities involve the coordination and supervision of the various functions and aspects of a specific program as well as the monitoring of program staff and operational procedures. Work is performed under general supervision with evaluation based on results obtained. May supervise program staff, volunteers and student assistants.

Major/Essential Functions
  • Knowledge of the CPT, ICD-CM, and HCPCS nomenclature, coding rules and guidelines.
  • Advanced understanding of medical terminology.
  • Knowledge of inpatient and outpatient medical records processing and federal and state reimbursement regulations. 
  • Ability to write clear, concise reports, and business correspondence.
  • Capacity to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures as well as calculate figures, discounts, and percentages.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and present information.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, self-starter, and ability to function with minimal or no supervision.
  • Intermediate or advanced knowledge of MS Word and Excel.
  • Dependable in both production and attendance.
  • Excellent oral and written communication with minimal errors.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Coding assistance experience in a multi-physician practice with an emphasis on billing and denials.
  • Knowledge of coding software application preferred.
  • Coding certification and/or training a plus.
