Position Description
Reviews official medical records with physician/healthcare provider documentation and assigns appropriate codes for all physician/healthcare provider services from current editions of official coding sources. Ensures accurate, complete, and timely code assignments for all physician/healthcare providers.

The Texas Tech Physicians Department of Family Medicine  is committed to providing high quality medical care for individuals of all ages. We are dedicated to providing an excellent training environment for Family Medicine Physicians of today and the future. Our department is a fast-paced, team-oriented environment where the patient always comes first. 

The Coding and Reimbursement Specialist will contribute to our mission by:
  • Performing coding and charge entry for service provided in the Family Medicine clinic
  • Performing coding and charge entry for service provided by Family Medicine physicians in the inpatient setting.
  • Monitoring  federal and state regulations regarding professional service descriptions, coding, fee billing, reimbursement and service substantiation.
It is critical for the Coding and Reimbursement Specialist to demonstrate excellent communication skills, training ability, effective problem solving, and professionalism. The Coding and Reimbursement Specialist must be able to keep calm under pressure and be comfortable working with providers and nurses.

Preferred Qualifications
CPC or AHIMA certification. Experience with 3M Computer Assisted Coding product. Experience with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Power Point.

Required Qualifications
* A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent plus at least two (2) years of coding and reimbursement experience that includes procedural and diagnosis coding. OR * A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent plus successful completion of a recognized procedural and diagnosis coding course.
