Position Description
Reviews official medical records with physician/healthcare provider documentation and assigns appropriate codes for all physician/healthcare provider services from current editions of official coding sources. Ensures accurate, complete, and timely code assignments for all physician/healthcare providers.

Major/Essential Functions
  • Reviews provider documentation on patient encounter and assigns accurate CPT and ICD-10 code. Encounters may include those in the clinic, hospital consults and daily care, operative notes, and DME
  • Uses 3M computer assisted coding to aid in assignment of codes
  • May work surgeries and hospitals out of logs. Updates information about corrections and coding dates
  • Clears demographic and coding edits in TES when needed
  • Responsible for notifying physicians when documentation is delinquent or needs corrections
  • Updates currently coding spreadsheet weekly. Reviews and updates TES edits reports and missing charges report
  • Participates in continuing education opportunites
  • May assign codes for pre-authorization of surgical procedures

Required Qualifications
* A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent plus at least two (2) years of coding and reimbursement experience that includes procedural and diagnosis coding. OR * A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent plus successful completion of a recognized procedural and diagnosis coding course.
