Reviews official medical records with physician/healthcare provider documentation and assigns appropriate codes for all physician/healthcare provider services from current editions of official coding sources. Ensures accurate, complete, and timely code assignments for all physician/healthcare providers.

KNOWLEDGE OF CPT, ICD 10 AND HCPC NOMENCLATURE,  CODING RULES AND GUIDELINES
KNOWLEDGE OF INPATIENT AND OUTPATIENT CODING GUIDELINES. BE ABLE TO FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS AND WILLING TO ACCEPT CONSTRUCTIVE DIRECTION.

Preferred Qualifications
THIS POSITION IS AN ENTRY LEVEL CODING POSTION WITHIN THE CODING DEPARTMENT.  THE PERSON IN THIS POSITION  MUST HAVE  2 YEARS MEDICAL OFFICE CODING EXPERIENCE OR PROOF OF COMPLETION OF CODING COURSE. THIS PERSON MUST STUDY AND PASS EXAM WITH THE AAPC. WITHIN ONE YEAR OF HIRE DATE. WE WILL SUPPLY STUDY MATERIAL AND PAY FOR FIRST EXAM .  ONCE THIS PERSON PASSES THE EXAM THE POSITION WILL CHANGE TO SR. CODING AND REIMBURSEMENT SPECIALIST AFTER 6 MONTHS.  IF THE EMPLOYEE LEAVES PRIOR TO COMPLETING 2 YEARS AFTER PASSING EXAM THE EMPLOYEE MUST REIMBURSE TTUHSC THE COST ACCRUED.

THE PERSON MUST BE ABLE TO SPEAK ENGLISH AND COMMUNICATE WITH PROVIDERS IN A CLEAR AND PROFESSIONAL MANNER.

Required Qualifications
* A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent plus at least two (2) years of coding and reimbursement experience that includes procedural and diagnosis coding. OR * A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent plus successful completion of a recognized procedural and diagnosis coding course.
