Performs specialized analytical duties in the operation and maintenance of assigned area. Responsibilities include collecting, analyzing and developing data relative to area, making recommendations and assisting in implementation of projects. Work is performed under general supervision with latitude for independent judgement in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Bachelor's degree in statistics, mathematics or a related area plus five years progressively responsible related experience.
Requires exceptional analytical skills and extensive knowledge of: SQL, SQL Server, SQL Server tools (performance,
troubleshooting, etc.); statistical Data Analysis Tools (SAS, R, SPSS, etc.); Cognos and/or SQL Server Reporting
Services. Ability to: Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; organize work effectively, conceptualize and
prioritize goals, and exercise independent judgment based on an understanding of organizational policies and activities;
analyze complex query, reporting, dashboard or data mining requests and recommend, develop and implement solutions;
troubleshoot complex query, reporting, dashboard or data mining problems, including logic errors, design problems and
performance problems and recommend, develop and implement solutions; design, develop and deploy complex queries,
reports, dashboards and data analysis methodologies that use varying data sources; perform technical work in designing,
coding, implementing and maintaining complex efficient queries, reports, dashboards, data analysis methodologies, etc. in
a fast paced environment; design, develop, code, implement and maintain web based solutions for complex
requests/problems when necessary; multi-task project assignments; consistently produce quality work; and work
independently with limited supervision. Purpose: learn and maintain familiarity with database schema's and data
relationships for use in the development and maintenance of complex queries, reports, and dashboards; apply statistical
methods and procedures to validate, analyze and interpret statistical data; maintain a current knowledge of querying,
reporting, data analysis, dashboard development, and other applicable tools; the development of project plans to test,
analyze, and maintain complex queries, reports, dashboards, etc. in support of business requirements; performance of
troubleshooting to resolve issues; validating the accuracy of queries, reports and dashboards; and maintaining
documentation of processes, procedures, etc. Major functions: Learning and stay abreast of the data analysis
methodologies, data structures of new and existing databases for reporting and querying purposes; learning and
maintaining familiarity with database schema's, data relationships, etc. for use in developing complex reports, queries and
dashboards; developing and maintaining complex queries and reports using multiple data sources that meet the needs
defined by various customers or departmental management; performing requested data analysis; and creating and
modifying dashboards or other presentation models of information while providing adequate documentation in each so
that the purpose and calculation methodology is clear and understandable. Must understand the data used for queries and
reporting and an understanding of clinical work flows through collaboration with appropriate personnel and individual
study. Using this understanding, databases and various sources, must have the ability to validate the accuracy of reports
and queries. Responsible for: Researching, troubleshooting, and reviewing existing queries and reports to improve
efficiency, apply new requirements, or correct problems; respond to customer issues with new and existing queries,
reports, dashboards, data analysis, etc.; suggest/implement solutions in an effective and timely manner; preparing and
maintaining technical and user documentation of processes and procedures related to queries, reports, dashboards, data
analysis, etc. for reference by other developers and to support end users; providing project management, support and
direction for initiatives, projects, and other work in an effective and timely manner using existing tools; performing
research, testing, evaluation and/or complex feasibility studies and uses these as the basis for making recommendations of
actions to be taken.
Minimum Hire Rate
Knowledge and understanding of the following required: Ability to write and troubleshoot SQL (Complex structured
queries; stored procedures, develop views, functions, tables, triggers, etc.; apply and utilize indexes efficiently; etc.).
Reporting tools such as Cognos, SQL Server Reporting Services, etc. Performance tuning, query optimization and
troubleshooting using SQL tools. Ability to analyze statistical data, apply and evaluate statistical methods and procedures
to ensure validity, applicability and accuracy of data. Knowledge of the following is also helpful: SAS, R, SPSS etc.
