Position Description
Assists Superintendent in the supervision of work in the care and maintenance of an assigned area such as agriculture, athletics, grounds, housing and residence halls, physical plant, maintenance, etc.

Major/Essential Functions
This position is responsible for the planning and organizing of work of journeyman in an assigned trade, the development
of material and labor estimates for proposed work, as well as the assigned trade shop budget, inventories, procedures and
policies. Work is primarily evaluated for effective use of resources, accomplishment of assigned projects, and adherence to
trade standards.

Preferred Qualifications
Must have thorough knowledge of the methods and practices of the mechanics/maintenance trade. Skilled in the use and
care of the tools, equipment and materials used in the trade. Have the ability to establish and maintain effective work
relationships with others. Ability to plan and allocate the workload of employees, providing direct training and
supervision as needed. High School diploma or equivalent. Proficiency in written and mathematical skills as may be
reflected in the completion of high school. Three years experience as a licensed journeyman in the assigned trade; or six
years experience in maintenance/mechanic trade, preferably lead worker experience. Thorough knowledge of the standard
tools, equipment, materials, methods and practices of the assigned trade. Job related vocational training or other education may substitute for the required experience on a year for year basis.

Required Qualifications
Two years formal training in an accredited institution such as a junior college or trade school, five years of experience in supervision of building maintenance trades, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
