Contributes to the university’s mission through teaching, research and service, some variation by academic unit.

Major/Essential Functions
  1. Provides and manages direct patient care, including physical examinations, evaluations, assessments, diagnoses and treatment for specified patient population.
  2. Prescribes pharmaceuticals, other medications, and treatment regimens as appropriate to assessed medical conditions.
  3. Utilizes specialists and referrals as appropriate.
  4. Trains and supervises residents and students as appropriate.
  5. May manage the daily operations of a specific medical program, patient care unit or research functions.
  6. Directs and coordinates the patient care activities of nursing and support staff as required.
  7. Follow established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives, and safety environment, and/or infection control standards.
  8. As appropriate to the position, participates in specified health promotion, education, and/or prevention programs.
  9. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:  Completion of an approved residency program in General Surgery.  Board certified/eligible.  Eligible for Texas Medical Licensure. 

Perfers additional fellowship training/experience in Breast, Endocrine, or Colorectal Surgery.

Required Qualifications
MD degree required.
