Position Description
The IT Support Technician I’s scope includes providing technical support and assistance to departments, faculty, staff, and students with the use of basic hardware and some software support and maintenance.

Major/Essential Functions

  • Maintain the security and protection of electronic information resources to include computers, network, software and data.
  • Complete and document work orders as assigned in a timely manner.
  • Maintain physical hardware and related peripherals for proper operation.
  • Install system software, patches, application software and utilities.
  • Provide technical support for Helpdesk calls and for Tier I support.
  • Maintain service delivery performance metrics.
  • Maintain software approval procedures, and requests.
  • Issue pagers; keep accurate records and assists with pager maintenance.
  • Provide knowledge transfer to peers while maintaining a positive team oriented attitude and act as a collaborative team member.
  • Fulfills departmental requirements in terms of providing work coverage and administrative notification during periods of personnel illness, vacation, or education.
  • Performs other duties and tasks as may be assigned from time to time, consistent with established verbal and written policies, procedures and schedules.

Preferred Qualifications
Position Specific Qualifications:
  • Ability to install/troubleshoot computers/printers
  • Basic knowledge of PC hardware components
  • Basic knowledge of Windows XP, Windows 7, and Mac operating systems and drivers
  • Basic knowledge of peripherals such as printers, scanners, and external storage devices.
  • Basic knowledge of common applications such as antivirus, email, Microsoft and Adobe products
  • Ability to understand and follow direction
  • Ability to work under stress of deadlines
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate complex technical information to various customer groups
  • Ability to coordinate and adjust work load effectively

  • Apple certification
  • CompTIA A+ certification

Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree with coursework in computer science, MIS, IT, or other related area OR a combination of related education and/or experience to equal four (4) years.
