Position Description
Reviews official medical records with physician/healthcare provider documentation and assigns appropriate codes for all physician/healthcare provider services from current editions of official coding sources. Ensures accurate, complete, and timely code assignments for all physician/healthcare providers.

Major/Essential Functions
-Processes hospital inpatient and outpatient billing to include registering, updating insurance information and data entry.
-Ensures the appropriate selection and use of Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) and International Classification of Diseases (ICD) codes by auditing 100% of Neurology charts. 
-Contacts third-party payors to verify insurance coverage, benefits as required.
-Assist with appeals for the Department and responds to MPIP with various billing and coding issues to include Form A's and charge correction submission via SharePoint.
-Prepares and completes all assignments from supervisor.

Preferred Qualifications
At least two (2) years of coding and reimbursement experience in a physician group, clinic or academic healthcare setting.
Use of Microsoft Office.  Current certification through the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) in the following areas: Certified Coding Specialist-Physician based (CCS-P) Certified Coding Specialists (CCS) Certified in Healthcare Privacy (CHP) Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) Certified Coding Associate OR Current certification through the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) in of the following areas: Certified Professional Coder (CPC) Certified Professional Coder-Hospital (CPH-H) .

Required Qualifications
A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent plus at least two (2) years of coding and reimbursement experience that includes procedural and diagnosis coding. OR A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent plus successful completion of a recognized procedural and diagnosis coding course.
